While numerous detox resources are available, it’s important to acknowledge the existing gaps in the system. Unfortunately, some of the detox facilities are not equipped to provide safe and comprehensive care for individuals seeking to detox from alcohol and/or benzodiazepines or those on higher doses of methadone (above 30 mg).

We recognize the urgent need for a more inclusive and accessible detox system that caters to the diverse needs of individuals struggling with substance use disorders. It is our sincere hope that policymakers, healthcare providers, and community stakeholders will collaborate to bridge these gaps and ensure that everyone has access to the appropriate level of care and support they need to embark on their journey toward recovery.

Peer Support Centers are facilities that provide support services and activities run by and for people in recovery. They are characterized by their emphasis on peer-to-peer interaction and support.

What’s the difference between an RCO and a PSC?

While both types of organizations promote recovery using peer-led models, RCOs tend to have a broader community and advocacy focus, whereas Peer Support Centers are more focused on individual support and daily operational recovery services. Both forms of support are crucial to building a robust recovery environment that can address various needs of individuals at different stages of their recovery journey.
